I have been blessed with being a REIKI Master Teacher for over 40 years. I have experienced many wonderful things.
A week ago, I noticed movement in a net that was hanging nearby. When I went to look, I found a hummingbird that had been trapped. It was over 108° that day, and I knew all creatures needed water, and hummingbirds especially require food almost constantly. He lay there helplessly, with his wing bent out of shape.
I gently put him in the palm of my hand and began letting REIKI flow. I kept touching his beak with drops of water, and after many minutes, I noticed he was trying to drink.
I watched as his wing began moving back into its natural location. I took a branch from his favorite food source so he could at least feel like he was perching.
After about an hour, he was sitting on the perch, still dazed, but he was slowly consuming the sweet hummingbird food. I realized he would not be secure if I left him outside.
So I brought him in, hurt, perch and all. I covered the box with a sheet and continued sending REIKI until I fell asleep. I woke before dawn to check on him, and miraculously, he was starting to fly around.
I took him into the backyard and released him onto his favorite bush, and his beautiful wings carried him off to continue his life. He visits me every morning. He gave me such a blessing, to be of assistance when he truly needed it.
We live in a world of energy. It is all around us. It runs through us and connects us to the universe we live in.
In the third insight, we learned that the world is a vast system of energy connecting everything together. And now, in the fourth insight, we see that this energy is what we all desire, and we are willing to do anything for it. Now enter the world of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, as the saying goes. People also use money and power to control others.
The fourth insight shows how people have learned many ways of attaining that energy and using it to further their own agenda. The reason that conflict cannot be resolved easily is that one side or person is holding on to an irrational position while trying to regain or gain control.
If the world around us feels this energy and thrives on it, what responsibility do we have to learn how to share and receive, and live with care and compassion?
Plants, animals, people, and even the weather all respond to the energy that we emit. It can be healing, or it can be controlling, or even damaging.
We've all seen the way a child's face lights up when they receive approval, love, or inspiration from a parent or a teacher. And we know the devastation that is inflicted when they are rejected, ignored, or humiliated.
Our energy affects everything around us. You can contact the HeartMath Institute in California and delve into the vast amount of research that brings this to light. Again, I say, our Indigenous ancestors tried to live in harmony, balance, and the rhythm of nature.
We’ve done several podcasts speaking of self-love, how words really impact our relationships and the world, and how important it is to be conscious of the impact we have on others.
We all speak to feel validated, loved, appreciated, heard, seen, supported, and understood.
But to seek these things through manipulation or coercion is an indication that the person does not understand how to connect with their divine essence.
To learn how to build your own supply of continuous energy requires self-love. When we have self-love, we do not depend on taking it from someone else.
Another story beautifully written is called Warm Fuzzies, a beautiful children's book that speaks about this beautifully. In a small village, every time a child was born, they were given a basket of warm fuzzies. As they grew up, they constantly received warm fuzzies from everyone around them, and they learned that no matter how many warm fuzzies they gave away, their basket was always full.
There was a person who wanted others to buy her potions to help with relationships, finances, or happiness. She realized that if people kept giving away warm fuzzies, no one would buy her potions. So she began spreading rumors that they needed to save their warm fuzzies for themselves because they would run out.
People started hoarding their warm fuzzies and stopped sharing, and everyone in town began to feel the loss. Of course, they bought her potions, hoping they would work. And as everyone became miserable, there was one small child who realized that no matter how many warm fuzzies he gave away, his basket was still full. Soon, others realized that they would not run out of energy if they shared their warm fuzzies without conditions.
If we were to realize this and be free with sharing our energy, knowing that loving energy would come back our way, there would be no reason to fight over it or try to gain control.
Instead, people now use their energy to control others. We see this in relationships, in schools, in jobs, and in sports. It’s one thing to always be your best and compete with yourself, but when we allow competition to be the measure of our worth, we join others in fighting over energy.
We do not realize that our energy is endless and limitless. Our parents are products of their upbringing. And if they grew up being denied energy, they would learn how to fight for it, and in doing so, we would learn how to manipulate energy to gain the control we saw. If our parents held back love and only gave it out in small doses, they would be aloof and standoffish, making us feel the need to pull love out of them. Then, our pattern of being an Interrogator would emerge in order to live in that energy drama.
If we realized that we got attention every time we had a bad day or a bad situation, we would learn to pull energy from others by being the Poor Me. Perhaps we were in a situation where we were being bullied, and we learned we would survive by becoming the Intimidator in order to control others.
I'm sure we have all met these types of people, and even people who use a combination of methods to get us to conform and follow their lead. You notice this: certain people know how to push our buttons because they want us to have a strong emotion that produces a lot of energy.
Energy vampires
When you're around these people, you feel weak and unable to think. They literally drain your life. Life force, energy, chi, prana, are all names to express our vital essence. The things we see performed in martial arts require skill, lots of practice, and, most importantly, an understanding of energy and how it flows.
One of the greatest drama-filled human experiences we encounter is the relationship, whether with friends, family, jobs, or careers. These are all examples of how we choose to move energy. In the beginning of a romantic relationship, a great deal of energy flows equally between two people. This, of course, is a very blissful time.
As the relationship continues, complexity and decision-making begin to pit the two people against each other. Each one seeks validation. Each believes they have the answer, and each will do whatever is necessary to be right. Now it becomes a competition, a situation where one or both feel out of control and feel that in order to survive, they must have the upper hand.
Understanding that we are more than just human beings with emotions, we see how important it is to find a way to produce all the energy we need and more, without dominating or controlling others.
This is why I love The Four Agreements. Becoming authentic and learning how to love yourself allows you to be self-sustaining, and always have more than enough. When we learn to create and maintain our own energy, and realize it cannot be depleted by anyone, we begin sharing more. The more energy we produce, the more energy we share, and we create a healthy environment in which we are all nourished, seen, appreciated, and nurtured.
Every Tuesday evening, I host a heart-centered meditation at my center in Mesa, Arizona, which I call the Open-Heart Meditation. During this session, I guide the group into the depths of our heart’s center, filling it with joy as we allow it to expand and vibrate faster and faster. Through this practice, we embrace our true essence as beings of light.
If you’re in the Phoenix or Mesa area, I warmly invite you to join us. Feel free to reach out and become part of our Open-Heart Meditation community.

I see you, I appreciate you, I honor you
