My Sacred Space
Where is my place of solitude, where is my special place
Where do I go for sanctuary, where is my sacred space
I seek my enter sanctuary, I feel a longing to reconnect
A place beyond the time and space, a time to pause and reflect
In the chaos and the congestion of the world around
Where, in this confusion, may my soul rebound
The need to compete, and make it to the top
We keep running, afraid to stop
We are consumed with the feeling of despair
How can I find my way back and become aware
In this world I feel I have lost my place
Always racing, doing, running to complete the race
I remember my solace, deep within my being, beating within my heart
This is my true sanctuary, from this place will never depart
I reconnect to the stillness within,
Open my heart and let peace to begin
For within my soul lies all I seek, my sanctuary and my sacred space
I go within for there lies the key to my special place
Where is my solace, where is this place
Deep within my heart lies my sacred space

What does it mean to have a sacred space?
Why is it important?
How do we create our own sacred space?
Excellent questions. Let's remember when we were small children. Our greatest concern was what cereal for breakfast, where did my favorite shoe go? What causes moonlight? And our favorite: are we there yet?
Life was uncomplicated and simple. As we have now discovered, we are living in the hustle and bustle, in the middle of chaos, which can lead to confusion, frustration, and even depression.
Where is the pause button? How can we, again, find that quiet, simple faith sanctuary in our random journey through life and catch our breath? Where is that safe place, that quiet oasis?
We do not realize that that safe place resides within our own being. We have talked about mindfulness. When we slow down and focus on the task at hand, we can feel the shift. Just breathing and taking a moment to step into mindfulness, we find that the task at hand begins to resolve itself effortlessly. Athletes refer to this as being “in the zone.” It is when they shut out all the commotion around them, envision the task, and are able to feel and see the end results.
Why do we need this place in our life?
When we are constantly running our minds and our bodies, this leads to burnout, and we are prone to stress-related illnesses. More and more, we realize that we need a mental and physical reset.
By creating a path to our personal sanctuary, a place where we can find peace and serenity, it allows us to again jump into the main street of life renewed, refreshed, and with greater insight.
I find I use it all the time: before I sit down to write, before a big decision, when I'm in doubt, and mostly just because.
Just because... A few moments or an hour of meditation frees my mind and my soul, and I am clear, strong, and guided.
Do we have to isolate ourselves to have this special time? Do we have to spend money and try to fit it into everything else that we do? The answer is no.
We can find this space:
by reconnecting to nature for a few moments
by walking more slowly and with purpose
by listening to some soothing music
by teaching ourselves to be mindful
by sitting in our favorite spot
or by adding a daily meditation to our life.
If you can, join the weekly meditation group, or start by simply adding 5 minutes before you jump out of bed, envisioning all the possibilities of this wonderful new day.
A great actor, Hugh Jackman, said that meditation changed his life and his family's. He said, “I pause and meditate for 5 minutes before going to work, before I begin rehearsal, before going into a business meeting, and even before being on the Oscars.”
When we take that moment to go to our special place, our sacred space, and reconnect, we are renewed, enlightened, inspired, and at peace, where we can create possibilities.
We are our sacred space. We are our sanctuary. For we are pure human and capable of creating our divine connection to our own personal divinity.
It is never out there. It is always in here, in our hearts.
Every Tuesday evening, I host a heart-centered meditation at my center in Mesa, Arizona, which I call the Open-Heart Meditation. During this session, I guide the group into the depths of our heart’s center, filling it with joy as we allow it to expand and vibrate faster and faster. Through this practice, we embrace our true essence as beings of light.
If you’re in the Phoenix or Mesa area, I warmly invite you to join us. Feel free to reach out and become part of our Open-Heart Meditation community.

I see you, I appreciate you, I honor you
