As newborn humans we come equipped with the unique form of divine awareness called intuition. This is our first means of understanding our new alien environment after leaving the sanctuary of our mother's womb.
We feel and sense the emotions of others around us, and respond when we feel peace, are calm, or when we feel fright or discord. This is the beginning of our earthly experience.
As we grow we are given words to state the feelings that we are experiencing. Joy, anger, frustration, what we need, fear, and sadness are among the many examples of emotions that we are given. We learned that these emotions are given merit and accountability, like a big game of keeping score to see who is best. And who will win?
Our time of just simply being ourselves and being in awe of the world around us has now become one of good, bad, or right, wrong, or yes, no, and we have now been introduced to judgment. We are given a code of what is acceptable, and we learned that if we conform we are rewarded, and if we resist we receive punishment.
As we grow we are always using this yardstick to judge everything we do and everything around us. Is this the best school, the right job, the correct relationship, and especially are we worthy?
What is judgment? It is the cognitive process of evaluating information to form an opinion or make a ruling. It involves thinking and assessing evidence; however, it is also filled with our past experiences, fears, doubts, ideas both pro and con. Judgment may have served us as we learned to navigate this new environment called life.
When we begin touching into the divinity of humanity we are given another tool called discernment. Discernment allows us to make decisions from a higher understanding using the guidance of intuition and gives us the ability to perceive, understand, and to assimilate situations with more clarity, utilizing subtle details that are not usually available in judgment alone. It involves sifting through the data, including emotional insights, to make a wise, often non-obvious decision and being able to eliminate the false judgments we put on ourselves when we were children.
Some of the characteristics of discernment are the capability to see beyond the obvious and make a more accurate and more intelligent decision resulting in an outcome that is going to bring greater satisfaction.
We find that we take a slower contemplation as we look for the solution, and we set aside personal biases. We utilize our spiritual alignment by tapping into our intuition. By using discernment, we develop better decision-making habits by making informed, intelligent choices, especially when dealing with complex situations.
Utilizing clarity and insight, it provides a deeper understanding of people's motives and the situation at hand. If we enter a place of peace by aligning with our highest purpose, our judgments become tempered by discernment and not by emotional baggage. Practice active listening by paying attention to all sides of the situation, including the small voice within. Avoid rushing into decisions and take time for reflection and contemplation. Cultivate humility, recognizing that proper discernment involves looking beyond one's own immediate selfish desires.
In our busy life we will always have situations where we make a snap decision and have to come to a conclusion without deep contemplation. This is life; however, if you take the time to pause and be still before making a decision about something, you will find that your decisions are going to be guided and motivated for the betterment and well-being of all parties involved.
When we speak to ourselves and we practice being impeccable with our speech and bringing in the harmony of discernment when it concerns how we see ourselves, our personal life is enriched, and as we enrich our life we enrich the life of others.
Every Tuesday evening, I host a heart-centered meditation at my center in Mesa, Arizona, which I call the Open-Heart Meditation. During this session, I guide the group into the depths of our heart’s center, filling it with joy as we allow it to expand and vibrate faster and faster. Through this practice, we embrace our true essence as beings of light.
If you’re in the Phoenix or Mesa area, I warmly invite you to join us. Feel free to reach out and become part of our Open-Heart Meditation community.

I see you, I appreciate you, I honor you
